Doses - CEFOTAXIME SODIUM

Dogs: Dog

For susceptible infections:
a) For acute pancreatitis: 6 - 40 mg/kg IV or IM qid (Morgan 1988)
b) 27.5 - 55 mg/kg IM, IV or SQ q8h (Aronson and Aucoin 1989)
c) 25 - 50 mg/kg IV, IM or SQ q8h (Riviere 1989); (Vaden and Papich 1995)

Cats: Cat

For susceptible infections:
a) 27.5 - 55 mg/kg IM, IV or SQ q8h (Aronson and Aucoin 1989)
b) 25 - 50 mg/kg IV, IM or SQ q8h (Riviere 1989)
c) 25 - 50 mg/kg IV, IM or SQ q8h (Vaden and Papich 1995)

Horses: Horse

For susceptible infections:
a) Foals:20 - 30 mg/kg IV q6h (Caprile and Short 1987)

Birds: Bird

For susceptible infections:
a) For most birds: 50 - 100 mg/kg IM tid; may be used with aminoglycosides, butnephrotoxicity may occur. Reconstituted vial good for 13 weeks if frozen. (Clubb 1986)
b) 75 - 100 mg/kg IM or IV q6-8h (Hoeffer 1995)

Reptiles: Reptile

For susceptible infections:
a) 20 - 40 mg/kg IM once daily for 7-14 days. (Gauvin 1993)
