A hormone produced in the brain that acts on the kidney causing it to save water and to produce concentrated urine. The abbreviation ADH also stands for alcohol dehydrogenase. A hormone produced by the hypothalmus and stored in the pituitary gland. ADH regulates the ability of the collecting ducts of the kidneys to reabsorb water. In the absence of ADH the animal voids large amount of urine.
