Doses - EDROPHONIUM CHLORIDE

Dogs: Dog

For presumptive diagnosis of myasthenia gravis (MG):
a) Inject 0.1 - 0.2 mg/kg IV; short term increased muscle strength is seen in a positive (notnecessarily specific for MG, both false positives and negatives) test. (Shelton 1992)
b) 0.11 - 0.22 mg/kg IV (Papich 1992)

Cats: Cat

For presumptive diagnosis of myasthenia gravis (MG):
a) 2.5 mg IV (Papich 1992)
b) 0.25 - 0.5 mg per cat IV (Joseph, Carrillo et al. 1988)
Monitoring Parameters - Dependent on its indication. See doses above.
Client Information - Edrophonium is a drug that should be used in a controlled clinical setting.
Clients should be briefed on the side effects that can occur with its use.
