As an antiemetic/antidiarrheal:
a) 0.2 - 1.0 mg/kg PO q12h (DeNovo 1986)
For sinus bradycardia, incomplete AV block, etc.:
a) 2.5 - 5.0 mg PO bid-tid (Tilley and Miller 1986)
b) 0.2 - 0.4 mg/kg PO bid-tid (Moses 1988) Prochlorperazine/Isopropamide (Darbazine®)
a) As an antiemetic/antidiarrheal: 0.14 - 0.22 mg/kg SQ bid (Morgan 1988)
b) As an antiemetic: 0.5 - 0.8 mg/kg IM or SQ q12h (DeNovo 1986)
c) Injectable:
Weighing:up to 4 pounds = 0.25 ml;5 - 14 lb = 0.5 - 1 ml;15 - 30 lb = 2 - 3 ml;30 - 45 lb = 3 - 4 ml;45 - 60 lb = 4 - 5 ml;over 60 lb = 6 ml
Oral: Darbazine® #1: Weighing 2 - 7 kg: 1 capsule q12h PO; Weighing 7 - 14 kg: 2capsules q12h PO.
Darbazine® #3: Weighing over 14 kg: 1 capsule q12h PO (Package Insert, Darbazine®- SKB Labs)

Cats: Cat

  • 1) Clinical efficacy
  • 2) Heart rate and rhythm if indicated
  • 3) Adverse effects
    Client Information - Dry mouth may be relieved by applying small amounts of water to animal's tongue for 10-15 minutes. Protracted vomiting and diarrhea can be serious; contact veterinarian if symptoms are not alleviated.
    Isopropamide has been approved for use in humans by the FDA, but has not been approved for use in veterinary patients. It is a prescription (legend) drug.
