Doses - METOCLOPRAMIDE HCL

Dogs: Dog

As an antiemetic:
a) 0.2 - 0.4 mg/kg q6h PO, SubQ or IM; or 1-2 mg/kg/day as a continuous IV infusion(Washabau and Elie 1995)
b) 0.2 - 0.4 mg/kg SQ tid or as a continuous IV infusion at 0.01 - 0.02 mg/kg/hour(Chiapella 1988)
c) For bilious vomiting syndrome: 0.2 - 0.4 mg/kg PO once daily given late in the evening(Hall and Twedt 1988)
d) 1 - 2 mg/kg every 24 hours as a slow IV for severe emesis (DeNovo 1986)
e) To help prevent vomiting in patients with laryngeal paralysis and resultant tracheostomy:0.05 mg/kg SQ or slowly IV before small feedings (O'Brien, 1986)
For disorders of gastric motility:
a) 0.2 - 0.4 mg/kg PO tid given 30 minutes before meals (Hall and Twedt 1988)
b) 0.2 - 0.5 mg/kg PO or SQ q8h; give 30 minutes prior to meals and at bedtime for gastro-motility disorders and esophageal reflux (DeNovo 1986)
c) 0.2 - 0.4 mg/kg PO q6-8h (Burrows 1983)
For esophageal reflux:
a) 0.5 mg/kg PO q8h (Jones 1985)
b) 0.2 - 0.5 mg/kg PO or SQ q8h; give 30 minutes prior to meals and at bedtime for gastro-motility disorders and esophageal reflux (DeNovo 1986)
c) 0.2 mg/kg PO tid (with cimetidine or ranitidine, weight restriction, and high protein - low fat diet) (Watrous 1988)

Cats: Cat

a) 0.2 - 0.5 mg/kg PO, SQ q8h; give 30 minutes prior to meals and at bedtime for gastro-motility disorders and esophageal reflux (DeNovo 1986)
b) 0.2 - 0.4 mg/kg PO q6-8h (Burrows 1983)

Horses: Horse

To stimulate the gastrointestinal tract in foals:
a) 0.02 - 0.1 mg/kg IM or IV 3 - 4 times a day (Clark and Becht 1987)

1) Clinical efficacy and adverse effects
Client Information - Contact veterinarian if animal develops symptoms of involuntary movementof eyes, face, or limbs, or develops a rigid posture.

Metoclopramide HCl Injection 5 mg/ml in 2 & 10 ml amps, and 2, 10, 30, 50 & 100 ml vials(some contain preservatives, some are preservative free and labeled for single-use only);
Reglan® (Robins); Metoclopramide HCl® (Quad); Generic; (Rx)
