Doses - CEPHALOTHIN SODIUM

Note: IM injection may be very painful.

Dogs: Dog

For susceptible infections:
a) 35 mg/kg IM, SQ q8h (Upson 1988)
b) 10 - 30 mg/kg IV or IM q6-8h (Vaden and Papich 1995)
c) 10 - 30 mg/kg IM, IV or SQ (Riviere 1989)
d) 11 - 33 mg/kg IV q8h; 22 - 33 mg/kg IM or SQ q8h (Aronson and Aucoin 1989)
For surgical prophylaxis (soft-tissue):
a) 40 mg/kg IV before and then every 1.5 hours during surgery (Rosin et al. 1988)

Cats: Cat

For susceptible infections:
a) 35 mg/kg IM, SQ q8h (Upson 1988)
b) 10 - 30 mg/kg IV or IM q6-8h (Vaden and Papich 1995)
c) 10 - 30 mg/kg IM, IV or SQ (Riviere 1989)
d) 11 - 33 mg/kg IV q8h; 22 - 33 mg/kg IM or SQ q8h (Aronson and Aucoin 1989)

Cattle: Cattle

For susceptible infections:
a) 55 mg/kg SQ q6h (Beech 1987b)

Horses: Horse

For susceptible infections:
a) 11 - 18 mg/kg IM or IV qid (Robinson 1987)
b) Foals: 20 - 30 mg/kg IV q6h (Caprile and Short 1987)]
c) 18 mg/kg IM or IV q6h (Beech 1987b)

Birds: Bird

For susceptible infections:
a) 100 mg/kg IM qid (Clubb 1986)

Reptiles: Reptile

For susceptible infections in most species:
a) 20 - 40 mg/kg IM q12 hours (Gauvin 1993)
