Doses - FEBANTEL

Dogs: Dog

In combination with praziquantel (Vercom®) for labeled parasites (see Indications):
a) Older than 6 months of age: 10 mg/kg (febantel)/1 mg/kg (praziquantel) PO for 3 days
Puppies: 15 mg/kg (febantel)/1.5 mg/kg (praziquantel) PO for 3 days. (Package insert;
Vercom® Paste¯Miles)

Cats: Cat

In combination with praziquantel (Vercom®) for labeled parasites (see Indications):
a) Older than 6 months of age: 10 mg/kg (febantel)/1 mg/kg (praziquantel) PO for 3 days
Kittens: 15 mg/kg (febantel)/1.5 mg/kg (praziquantel) PO for 3 days. (Package insert;

Ruminants:

For removal of GI nematodes:
a) 5 - 10 mg/kg PO (Blagburn et al. 1989)
b) 10 mg/kg PO (Roberson 1988b)

Horses: Horse

For labeled indications:
a) 6 mg/kg PO or tube; retreat in 6-8 weeks if reinfection is likely to occur. (Robinson 1987), (Package Inserts; Rintal® Paste & Suspension¯Miles)
Monitoring Parameters -1) Efficacy; 2) Adverse effects, if severe
Client Information - Clients should be informed on general measures to reduce exposure tohelminth eggs and larva. Dogs with concomitant flea and Dipylidium caninum infestations shouldhave measures taken to remove the fleas from the animal and the environment.

Febantel 3.4% (34 mg/gram) and Praziquantel 0.34% (3.4 mg/gram) Oral paste syringe; 4.8 g, 12 g, and 36 g syringes
Vercom® Paste (Bayer); (Rx) Approved for use in dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens.
Praziquantel/pyrantel pamoate plus febantel; Drontal Plus Tablets® (Bayer) (Rx) small, mediumand large dog sizes
