Dogs: Dog

For treatment of gold-responsive dermatoses:
a) 0.1 - 0.2 mg/kg PO daily (note: preliminary dosage) (Rosenkrantz 1989)
For immune-mediated arthropathies and dermatopathies:
a) 0.05 - 0.2 mg/kg (up to 9 mg/day total dose) PO q12h (Vaden and Cohn 1994)
Monitoring Parameters - 1) Hepatic and renal function tests (prior to initiation of therapy and atregular intervals¯at least every 6 months); 2) CBC, platelet counts, and urinalyses (twice a monthinitially, then monthly for at least 3 months, then at least every 3-4 months)
Client Information - Clients must understand that several months may be required before apositive response may be seen. Commitment to the dosing schedule (bid), the costs associated withtherapy, and the potential adverse effects should be discussed before initiating therapy.
