Welborn Animal Hospital was founded in 1957 at 4946 Leavenworth Road by Dr. J. J. (Joe) Swanson. Dr. Swanson graduated from De La Salle High School before going on to Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, where he received his D.V.M. degree in 1954.

Dr. C. L. Bock joined the staff in 1975. Dr. Bock graduated from Chase County High School in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. He received his D.V.M. degree from KSU in 1974.

Dr. Jim Swanson received his D.V.M. degree from KSU in 1983. Dr. John Swanson received his D.V.M. degree from KSU in 1984. Drs. J. R. (Jim) and J. E. (John) Swanson worked at the animal hospital during their school years in Kansas City, Kansas, and at KSU. Both doctors are graduates of Washington High School.

Monday - Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

R.R. This place has been absolutely wonderful. Staff was always so sweet and would get is in so fast even if it was a last minute call. Our Pablo was treated so well by everyone at this location. We are so thankful to all of you. Even though our fur baby is gone, we will always be grateful to you all and if I ever get another companion in the future, I’ll definitely be bringing them here where I know they’ll be taken care of. Again, thank you everyone.

L.B. I unfortunately had to bring a beloved kitty in to be put to sleep. I was an emotional mess but they were gentle, very kind and understanding, giving me as much time as I needed to say "goodbye". Thank you for being there for us.

T.M. My dog needed to be seen asap and wasnt able to get into his normal vet. I called VCA and they got us in in couple hours. I was so grateful. They were amazing and got my fur baby all fixed up. The people who work there were so kind and the vet great. He listened to my concerns and explained everything. Needless to say this is our new vet. Would definitely recommend.

C.M. We took our beautiful 13-year-old lab to VCA Wellborn to have him cremated. We were treated with dignity and respect and kindness and sympathy. They returned him in a beautiful urn after cremation. Every aspect of this experience was wonderful and heartwarming. I have been dealing with them since the '90s and have never been let down. Thank you for your understanding during this most difficult time.

P.G. It’s ok. Be prepared to wait. I have never had an appointment here start on time. Today for my 10AM we finally went back at 10:28AM. We got there early thinking they would get us in on time. I should have known better. I have never had them start an appointment on time. BUT the doctors do seem to care about the animals and the prices are good. To get my dog updated on all her shots it was over $100 but that’s pretty good compared to what you would pay in Overland Park. We keep going back because the prices are right. The location can use a lot of updating but for the right price it’s worth it.
