Bradford Park Veterinary Hospital — Whether your treasured pet requires routine, preventative, specialty or emergency care, the Bradford Park Veterinary Hospital is equipped to handle most of its needs.
We have made the commitment to remain on the technological edge in medical, laboratory and surgical procedures. Our primary goal is to provide your pet with the in-depth diagnostic and treatment techniques typically found in most human hospitals and larger veterinary referral centers. At Bradford Park, we have the imaging and computer capability to share medical files, ideas and opinions with veterinary specialists via the Internet. This innovative technique allows us to consult with them on the more difficult and complicated cases.
Unfortunately, situations needing medical attention don't always occur during convenient times. When your pet requires treatment after business hours, the Bradford Park Veterinary Hospital has a veterinarian on call 24-hours a day to provide professional care when it's needed.
Services:
Baths may be scheduled Monday through Saturday. Only quality shampoos are used. In addition to a thorough cleansing of the skin and hair coat, nails are trimmed, and ears are cleaned. The pet is then thoroughly dried.
Boarding
Boarding services are available for cats, dogs, and exotics. Cats are housed separately from dogs in the "cat ward". Each cat has a large, clean cage containing a litter box, food, and water bowl. The litter is cleaned twice a day, and eliminations are carefully monitored.
Dogs board in spacious exercise runs, with hygienic grids for cleanliness. Fresh water is always available, and high quality food is given daily or specifically as requested. Dogs are exercised outside twice a day while the indoor runs are cleaned. Appetite, eliminations and conditions are carefully noted.
Dentistry
Veterinary dentistry is enormously important for the health of our patients. Dental infections are painful and may spread internally to other organs.
Dental procedures are performed under general anesthesia. Even basic cleanings require more manipulation than most pets tolerate comfortably. Gas or inhalant anesthesia is used safely and effectively.
The most common procedure is cleaning, or prophylaxis. An ultrasonic scalar is initially used to clean all deposits. Teeth are then polished to provide a smooth surface, and a fluoride treatment is applied. When indicated, diseased or fractured teeth may be extracted.
Antibiotics are prescribed for 1 to 2 weeks to help treat infection and prevent spread of bacteria.
Health Maintenance
Health maintenance is the application of preventative medicine to keep our patients well. It includes regular physical examinations, fecal floatation for intestinal parasites, heartworm tests, feline leukemia and aids tests, vaccinations, blood count and chemistry screening, urinalysis, and dental prophylaxis.
The doctors recommend a series of visits for puppies and kittens, and twice-a-year visits for adult dogs and cats.
Laboratory Diagnosis
Laboratory testing is critically important to the management of ill patients. Because prompt results are extremely beneficial, sophisticated equipment is maintained on the premises.
Tests may be done on blood, urine, feces, needle aspirates of lesions, ear swabs, skin scrapes, or discharges. In hospital tests of blood, urine, fecal material and fungal cultures are performed.
In addition, we refer biopsy samples to highly skilled veterinary pathologists and use reputable laboratories for specialized testing.
Nutrition
Many advances have been made in companion animal nutrition. High quality diets promote good health and prevent medical problems. Species, breed, age, activity, and medical conditions determine the nutritional needs of pets. Not only are there varied diets for healthy animals, there are prescription diets available to aid in the treatment of many abnormalities. Doctors will often recommend special diets as part of a treatment plan.
For your convenience, maintenance and prescription foods are kept in stock. Storage is in dry temperature controlled areas. Expiration dates are carefully checked. Special orders can be made promptly.
Pet Supplies
High quality pet supplies are stocked for your convenience. We carry a full line of pet foods, including prescription. We carry Advantage and Revolution for flea control in cats and dogs. In addition, products such as shampoos, ear cleaning solutions, healthy treats and sturdy grooming equipment are also available.
Pharmacy
A pharmacy is maintained on the premises for client convenience. Complete inventory is kept of heartworm preventatives, Flea control, and prescription medication. Only high-quality products from reputable manufacturers and distributors are stocked. Prescription refills require doctor approval.
Physical Examination
A physical examination is a professional service performed by a doctor. A routine physical is recommended twice a year for all pets, since pets may tolerate medical problems without symptoms apparent to most owners. Medical conditions are treated most successfully and economically when diagnosed early. Often, early diagnosis is made of arthritis, heart disease, dental infections, ear infections, tumors, and more.
Radiology
Radiographs or x-rays are an important diagnostic technique. These pictures represent comparative densities and shapes of interval structures. A radiology machine is maintained on the premises. An automatic processing machine develops the film quickly with high quality results.
Radiographs are useful in the diagnosis of many conditions, including arthritis, bone fractures, tumors, heart and lung disease, urinary stones, stomach and intestinal disorders, and more.
Surgery and Anesthesia
Surgery is performed in a designated operating room. Surgeons use proven sterile techniques, including scrubbing and wearing protective caps, masks and gowns. Instruments are sterilized in an autoclave and used for only one procedure before re-sterilization.
Anesthetic choices are made based on the species, breed, age, and physical condition of each patient. Doctors use both injectable and gas anesthetics. Separate anesthesia machines are maintained for isoflurane and sevoflurane.
A wide variety of surgical procedures are performed. Most common are spays (removal of ovaries and uterus), neuters (removal of testicles) and declaws. Operations are also performed for tumors, wounds, fractures and foreign objects. Surgery is done on most internal organs, hips, ears, and eyelids.
During surgery, patients are closely monitored. Cardiac monitors give an audible and visible evaluation of heart function. Respiration, membrane, colors, and anesthetic depth is closely watched.
Postoperatively, analgesics are often used to keep our patients comfortable. Lots of blankets and loving care keeps our patients content.
Length of hospitalization varies with procedures. Some patients may be discharged the day of surgery. For many procedures there may be one overnight stay.
