Doses - COLCHICINE

Colchicine may have some efficacy in the treatment of amyloidosis, but veterinary dosages areapparently unavailable at this time.

Dogs: Dog

For the adjunctive treatment of hepatic cirrhosis/fibrosis:
a) 0.025 - 0.03 mg/kg/day PO. Benefit is unproven. (Johnson and Sherding 1994)
b) 0.025 mg/kg PO per day; more evaluation on efficacy needed. (Rutgers 1994)
c) 0.03 mg/kg PO once daily (Leveille-Webster and Center 1995)
Monitoring Parameters - 1) Efficacy; 2) Adverse Effects (see above); 3) CBC
Client Information - Clients should be informed of the "investigational" nature of colchicine usein dogs and should be informed of the potential adverse effects that may be seen. They shouldreport changes in appetite or other GI effects immediately.
