AHA-accredited, Board Certified doctors & hospital: Allegheny North Veterinary Hospital located in Pittsburgh, PA with 3 Vets provide the
    finest care for your pet.

In early 1990, a group of York County veterinarians realized a need for an emergency clinic to serve local pet owners with immediate, quality emergency care when their regular veterinarians were not available. In 1991, the Animal Emergency Clinic of York opened its doors to patients.

On January 7th, 2005 Monroe Veterinary Emergency group purchased the clinic. The Animal Emergency Clinic of York continued to provide high quality emergency care to all patients in need by offering care overnight, 24hours on the weekends and on holidays. As the hospital grew, both in services provided and number of referring veterinarians, we quickly out grew our original home. It was clear to the staff and clients alike, we needed a bigger facility. The AERC started their search for a building that would not only provide the needed space, but also be a reflection of the high level of care provided by the hospital staff.

On December 5th, 2007, The Animal Emergency Clinic of York opened its new location at 1640 South Queen Street and began operating as a 24-hour emergency and referral center, open 365 days a year to meet the needs of the community. The hospital quickly began to attract the attention of specialists, and within a year the hospital began offering specialty surgery and ophthalmology. The clinic was renamed to the Animal Emergency & Referral Center as a response to the growth and direction demanded by the clients and referring veterinarians.

E.K. The staff here were so patient and caring when we were in with our sick dog. Despite a long wait, they kept us updated and we knew Winston was in good hands. They stayed open late to complete his treatment and were so kind and accommodating, offering us blankets and even coloring books and crayons for our daughter. Top notch experience.
T.M. I had to have my cat put to sleep. First time I've ever had to do that. I'm glad that we brought him here. The staff was so caring and compassionate. They gave us his paw prints and we even received a signed card in the mail. Then a couple weeks later I brought my 10 month old Rottweiler here because she was vomiting blood. They did what they could do and transferred me to another emergency vet. The vet kept me informed on what was going on and I appreciated that. I would recommend them over and over and in case of an emergency I will always bring my pets here. I just wish they had a bigger facility and could stay open 24hrs.
C.P. I called with concerns for our male cat having possible urinary trouble. They were able to take us right away. After the emergency exam, they were transparent with the care they gave our cat: the veterinarian answered all our questions, and staff provided an estimate of the possible costs (and readily available payment assistance! ) should we decide to have any investigatory testing or checkups done. It was our first visit to this facility and a scary time for us and our cat. It was so reassuring to be met with such caring, polite staff! Their love for animals was seen through their affirmative action and, later on, following up on how our cat was doing. It is truly a blessing that our cat is healthy and that we had this team of wonderful people to assure us of that. Thank you!
J.W. The team at Animal Emergency and Referral of York is amazing! We took our dog to them for emergency surgery that another animal hospital couldn’t do. The surgery was a success and everyone we dealt with there was so kind. They not only gave him excellent care during the surgery, but all of the staff loved up on him and took amazing care of him until we could take him home. I can’t recommend them enough! Diesel and his humans are so grateful for the whole staff!
C.O. I took in two six week old kittens from the outside and was told by my sister that they probably have worms. I called numerous vets and no one could take them. They both had some other concerning issues as well. Finally, one of the vets I called told me to take them to the emergency animal hospital. This one was the closest to me and was still almost an hour away. I got there at around 1800 and was checked in by the receptionist, who gave me a heads up about the cost of just having them looked at. Then another worker came over and asked some questions about the kittens and proceeded to tell me they were seventh in line and it would probably be four hours if not longer depending if more urgent cases came in during that time. I ended up leaving them there and waiting for a call. The vet called and informed me that the kittens had URI and worms. Then another receptionist called with the cost and information on what we needed to do. We didn't end up getting our kittens until around 0100 in the morning. Yes, it was long and yes it was a pain to have to wait up until they could be picked up. However, this is an animal ER. And just like a human ER, they go in order of urgency. If you want your pet looked at as soon as you get there then I suggest you schedule an appointment with a routine vet. The staff was very sweet and very caring towards my kittens. I appreciate the time and effort they put in and am thankful that they were able to help us.
C.R. We have been here a few times, for a few different reasons, and each time we have had nothing less than a great experience. Most recently Our 2 year old American Bulldog Lab mix had torn her ACL and was recommended to get TPLO surgery. When I called, we were walked through how the procedure would go, and what was includeded with the cost. Dr. Rabuffo is amazing to say the least. She took time to go over the x-rays at which our primary vet did not do, explained how ACL's get torn in larger dogs, how the repair would go, what to expect, and called after surgery with any remaining findings as well as to go over what has been done. We highly recomend coming here for anything! Shout out to the techs you are amazing at what you do and thank you for caring for poppy when she was upset and howling! ☺️.
