For treatment or prevention of recurrence of cystine urinary calculi:
a) In conjunction with an alkalinizing, protein & sodium restricted diet (e.g., U/D®), 30 - 40 mg/kg PO divided into two daily doses. (Cowan 1994)
Monitoring Parameters - 1) Efficacy (stone size); 2) CBC w/ platelets; 3) Urinalyses includingurine pH; 4) In humans, serum albumin and liver function tests have been recommended
Client Information - Clients should be counseled on the importance of adequate compliance withthis drug to maximize efficacy and detailed on the symptoms to watch for regarding adverse effects.
