Doses - PROMAZINE HCL
Dogs:
a) 2.2 - 6.6 mg/kg IV as a preanesthetic (Barbiturate dose is then reduced by 1/3 - 1/2.(Lumb and Jones 1984) b) 2.2 - 4.4 mg/kg IM as a sedative (Morgan 1988)
c) 2 - 4 mg/kg IM or IV (Davis 1985a)
d) 2 - 6 mg/kg IM or IV repeat q4-6h prn; as an antiemetic reduce dose by 1/3-1/2 (Booth1988a)
Cats:
a) 2.2 - 4.4 mg/kg IM as a sedative (Morgan 1988) b) 2.2 - 4.4 mg/kg IM or IV (Kirk 1986)
Cattle:
a) 1.1 mg/kg IV as a tranquilizer (Lumb and Jones 1984) b) 0.44 - 1.0 mg/kg IV or IM (Howard 1986)
Horses:
a) 1.1 mg/kg IV as a tranquilizer (Lumb and Jones 1984) b) 0.4 - 1.0 mg/kg IV (Robinson 1987)
c) 0.99 - 1.98 mg/kg PO (equivalent to 1.63 - 3.26 grams/100 lbs of body weight) Onelevel capful of promazine granules (Fort Dodge) will treat 300 lbs of horse at a dosageof approximately 1.45 mg/kg. Onset of action generally starts in 45 minutes and lastsfor 4-6 hours. (Package Insert - Promazine Granules, Fort Dodge)
Swine:
a) 0.44 - 1.0 mg/kg IV or IM (Howard 1986) b) Preanesthetic: 2 mg/kg with atropine (0.07 - 0.09 mg/kg) and meperidine (1 - 2mg/kg)(Booth 1988a)

Client Information - May discolor the urine to a pink or red-brown color; this is not abnormal.
