Acacia Animal Health Center in Escondido, CA with 4 Vets: AAHA-accredited, Board Certified doctors & hospital provide the finest care for your pet.
Dr. Louis Hartjen founded Acacia Animal Hospital in Escondido, California on February 2, 1959 at 1254 W. Grant. The street name was later changed to Mission Road due to confusion with Grand Avenue, another nearby street. In 1962 the hospital was expanded and remodeled. This property was purchased by the State of California in 1968 to build the onramp for the Interstate 78 East bound traffic merging onto south bound I-15.
In December 1971, Dr. Hartjen began construction of the new Acacia Animal Hospital and boarding center at 1326 W. Mission Road. Construction was completed and the new Acacia opened for business Memorial weekend, May 1972.
Dr. Hartjen retired and sold the practice to Dr. Gary Gallerstein in June of 1984. As the practice grew, Dr. Gallerstein realized it had outgrown its present location and moved into the former Walker Animal Hospital building at 1040 N. Broadway in November 1993. In March 2002 Acacia Animal Hospital's name was changed to Acacia Animal Health Center to better encompass the medical philosophy of our doctors and staff. February 2004 was another milestone for Acacia, as Dr. Carmine Bausone became a partner. Once again, due to growth and a desire to create a beautiful custom state-of-the-art facility, Acacia moved to 655 W Citracado Avenue in Escondido in January 2006.
Acacia has, historically, been very involved and supportive of our local community. This has involved working closely with and contributing to the Escondido Humane Society and the House Rabbit Society. In addition we offer no fee veterinary care for numerous animal wildlife organizations.
Acacia also financially contributes to numerous local charities and school activities. We also provide speakers to local schools, as well as, tours of our new facility.
