Buckhead Animal Clinic was established in the early 1950's. Originally the Clinic was located at 505 Lindbergh Drive. In 1981, the development of Marta forced a move to our current location on Piedmont Circle.

In over 50 years of business, Buckhead Animal Clinic has had three owners: Dr. Charles Rife, who founded the clinic; Dr. William V. Smith; and partners, Dr. David A. Forehand and Dr. Martin G. Stotelmyer.

Dr. Stotelmyer moved to Atlanta in August of 1974 to begin working at Buckhead Animal Clinic. In January of 1977, Dr. Forehand joined the practice. In 1981, Drs. Forehand and Stotelmyer became partial owners of the Clinic, and by 1984, they were equal partners. The pair remained business partners until Dr. Forehand's death in February 2004 and presently, Dr. Stotelmyer is the sole owner of Buckhead Animal Clinic.

Physical Examinations: Wellness, Puppy and Kitten, Adult, and Geriatric.
Vaccinations: In determining the appropriate vaccines, we consider the age, lifestyle, and needs of the individual pet.
Pharmacy: We have a large in-clinic pharmacy as well as access to local and online compounding pharmacies.
Long-Term Medication Evaluation
Surgery: Our surgery capabilities include routine spays and neuters; most traditional soft tissue surgeries; and limited orthopedic surgery. We can use laser technology to complete declaws, growth removals, and neuters.
Dentistry: Routine dental cleaning, application of barrier sealant to prevent plaque, and tooth extraction when necessary.

K.S.O.C. We've been taking our pets to this location for 8 years, and the staff has always been kind, efficient and caring. Dr. Willey was especially wonderful with my cat. Would highly recommend!

J.B. Vets are great and the staff is always so friendly. My puppy Georgia doesn’t even mind going to the vet because they always give her lots of treats and love to make sure the shots don’t scare her. Great at answering phone and have an easy to use app.

S.R. I have only been twice so far, but I will say I have VERY pleased with what I’ve heard and saw so far. VCA’s Dr. ’s & techs have been very clear and concise about entering they recommend and what it all involves. They are “Fear Free” certified and did things to ensure that my female German Shepherd was at ease and didn’t feel threatened. I was amazed at the care given. They followed up with both phone call and text steer the appointment. I just felt great after the visits. Thanks VCA!

D. Stopped taking my pets here after the changed hours of operation, but was looking for a new vet even before that. The vet we saw was not very personable, and didn't explain much on what was going on with them. I ended up going with a cat only vet which, in my opinion, is a better option for cat owners.

M.N. While I hope no one has to rush their pet with an emergency to a hospital, I'm glad I took my cat, Zig-Zag, to this location. They were able to check him in quickly, run some blood work and find out what's going on. The doctor, I believe it was Dr. Nina, went over some options, they kept him over night and she called me the next day to keep me updated.. The entire staff was very kind, loving, and understanding in this stressful situation. I've only visited this place once and it was in an emergency situation but the level of compassion and communication was out of this world.. Thank you for an amazing service.

J.B. I came here after burning a bridge with Banfield.. Honestly, they were much better than I expected. Extremely friendly office staff who actually remember you and your pet, vets that are patient and answer all questions to the best of their ability, they speak in terms the average person can understand, and are pretty upfront about pricing. When my kitten had really bad eye boogers because of an underlying condition, the vet was so sweet and caring. She recommended three prescriptions, but also said I could get away with just two of them since they were all a bit pricey. He looked 90% better in two days.. I always get a follow-up text about my pet, which is a little awkward, but I appreciate them reaching out. They make it super easy to cancel/reschedule appointments. When I called to cancel my cat’s pet plan, no one tried to convince to keep it. I was off of auto-renew in less than 60 seconds.. I’m really grateful that, even though this is a corporate entity, they put in the effort to make you feel valued and your pet cared for. It really goes a long way.

F.B. Nothing but great things to say about VCA. Every time my fur baby has an appointment, they text me the day after to check in on her. I’ve never had a vet clinic do that. I can tell Dr. Clifton genuinely cares about my dog and the front desk is always super sweet. They make it super easy in the middle of a pandemic to get the care she needs by allowing us to wait in our cars and pay via a check out link provided toward the end of the appointment. Thanks VCA!
