Our practice has been serving the people and their animals of York County since 1976. The practice first opened its doors in Springvale as the Springvale Veterinary Clinic serving primarily the farm animals in the area. The clinic was located in a residential area of town and as the practice shifted its focus to small animal medicine, the facility in Springvale became too small to serve the client's needs.

In 1977 the practice relocated to South Sanford changing its name to the Down Maine Veterinary Clinic. Today, our case load consists small animals, dogs and cats.

Down Maine Veterinary Clinic became an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association in 1986. Dedicated to continually providing the highest levels of service, Down Maine Vets prides itself as being among the 15% of all veterinary hospitals in the US and Canada to meet AAHA's rigorous accreditation standards.

In the fall of 2005, we began planning and construction for a major expansion of our South Sanford facilty. Now completed, the expanded facility features a new reception and pet waiting area; three new state of the art surgerical suites, and improved parking for the convenience of our clients. It is our goal to always strive to provide the best possible care for our patients in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

A.T. Dr. Nickerson is the best vet! We are so lucky she takes care of our fur babies! She is sweet and knowledgeable. So easy to talk to and makes sure you understand what’s going on with your babies. All the office staff are so sweet and helpful too!

J.F.R. I've been taking my cat and my dog to Down Maine Vet for several years now. The staff is friendly. They are a little on the pricey side and I considered looking for another place until my pets started seeing Dr. Nickerson. She is amazing! The best vet I've worked with. She is incredibly kind, considerate, and takes her time with my pets. She genuinely seems to care, and I am grateful to have such a great vet.

K.P. Communication about treatment was wonderful, phone calls always answered, and staff both professional and courteous. My only complaint is that discharge instructions were vague and no cone was provided post-procedure. I had to go back and buy one, which rubbed me the wrong way after spending several hundred the day before. Overall, I am happy with this vet and we will continue to go back for future services.

S.S. Down Maine has been our vet for over 10 years now, and they have given the utmost care to our cats. They have seen us through the hard times of aging and senior cat care, the good times of check-ups for newly adopted kittens. Most recently, they saved the life of our loved one, through emergency surgery due to eating some string. They were caring, supportive, and always took my call, even after hours, to alleviate my worries. Oh, and for all you dog lovers, they are also taking care of my father's black lab with epilepsy! It is amazing to see him jumping around like a puppy, given his age and condition, and I credit Down Maine for this. I can't say enough about them, and would highly recommend them to anyone seeking veterinary care.
