    • My family and I have brought all our family pets here: 4 cats and a dog.
    • Caring staff, place is clean and reasonably priced.
    • That being said, the prices for what was done and meds were a bit expensive.

    Anchor Animal Hospital

AAHA-accredited, Board Certified doctors & hospital: Anchor Animal Hospital Inc with 5 Vets located in North Dartmouth, MA, provide the finest care for your pet.

    Mission
Our mission is to provide high quality medicine, surgery, and preventative veterinary care to the South Coast of Massachusetts and the eastern shore of Rhode Island. We strive to bring the latest technology and techniques in a friendly, personal atmosphere.

    History

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, Drs. Gerald Pietsch and Lawrence Shinamon founded Anchor Animal Hospital in 1975. Their goal was to bring high quality veterinary care to the South Coast of Massachusetts and the nearby Rhode Island communities.

Anchor Animal Hospital rapidly grew into a 5 doctor practice. We have continued to add new equipment and technology for over 30 years and strive to bring the best care possible to the South Coast.

Anchor Animal Hospital has been an accredited member of the American Animal Hospital Association since 1980. To achieve this we have regular reviews and inspections to make sure that we meet high standards and keep abreast with the latest technology and techniques.

X-rays have been standard equipment at Anchor Animal Hospital since it opened and the doctors and staff pride themselves on their ability to take and interpret x-rays. Our doctors are also trained to perform contrast studies to help diagnose gastrointestinal, kidney, or bladder disease.

Anchor Animal Hospital was one of the first veterinary hospitals in the South Coast of Massachusetts to bring ultrasound into veterinary practice. For 15 - 20 years we have been performing both abdominal ultrasound and echocardiograms (ultrasound of the heart). We now are offering referral ultrasounds to other local veterinary hospitals to help them take advantage of this very useful diagnostic tool.

Recently Dr. Gerald Pietsch’s daughter, Dr. Kate Pietsch, joined the staff of Anchor Animal Hospital. She hopes to carry on the tradition of quality and caring medicine at Anchor Animal Hospital well into the future.

We provide high quality veterinary care for the Southcoast of Massachusetts and the east bay of Rhode Island. Our dedicated and caring staff provide service for cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, rodents, ferrets, pocket pets, amphibians, and reptiles.

Anchor Animal Hospital prides itself on providing high level medicine and surgery as well as routine preventative care. We enjoy developing long term relationships with clients and their pets.

We have been accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since 1980. Our Doctors attend national conferences on a routine basis to bring the latest knowledge, techniques, and technology to the SouthCoast.

    • Ultrasound - Anchor Animal Hospital is equipped with an advanced, on-site ultrasound machine. The doctors perform ultrasound routinely and are highly skilled at performing and interpreting ultrasound studies. Learn more about our ultrasound service under Services.

    • Exotics Service – Birds, ferrets, rodents, rabbits, hedgehogs, reptiles, and amphibians….Our doctors care for and treat these animals in addition to dogs and cats. If you have questions about what species we see please visit our exotics section under services.

Our goal is to provide as many services under one roof as we can. This not only is convenient for pet owners but also allows our doctors to perform high quality medicine and provide accurate and timely diagnoses and treatments.

The core of our services is providing preventative care to our patients starting from birth and continuing to old age. If one of our patients becomes ill or the doctor notices an abnormality during a wellness exam we have a variety of tests available to help diagnose the problem. We are also ready to provide treatment or treatment recommendations including medications from our pharmacy, hospitalization, or referral to one of the boarded specialist with whom we have close relationships.

E.M. My experience was absolutely amazing, the care and kindness they show our fur babies is truly inspiring. Very clean facility and such great people who work there! 5 stars for sure!
J.M. I love everyone here. They show such compassion for your animal. I've been going here for years and I'm very happyI found a vet I can actually trust and be satisfied with their care. The doctors are just wonderful!
N.B. Anchor animal hospital provided fantastic care for my pet. They took the time to thoroughly examine my rabbit and answered all questions I had. The compassion and care they have for animals is obvious, which is what should matter the most to all patients. Will definitely go back!
J.B. I’m so glad that I was able to find this veterinary clinic I have been bringing my sphinx cat since he was a baby and now I am bringing my sphinx kitten to them also. They are so attentive and caring and I always feel that they are so thorough and treat each animal as if they are their own. I will never go to another clinic for my animals.
    L. Staff is friendly but their prices are much higher than others and the availability of appointments is appalling. They very rarely reserve any slots for same day sick appointments and instead refer you to an emergency room. And if they can squeeze you in they charge you an absurd fee to reserve that appointment. I’m not sure why they do business this way but it’s very disappointing.
A.L. Absolutely wonderful. The receptionist was kind and caring when I called to make an emergency appointment. She got me in right away and was very sweet. Unlike the 2 other vets [one of which is my dogs regular vet] that told me sorry can't help you and hung up on me. Highly recommend!
A.G. Anchor has always been there for all of my pet needs whether they were minor or something major. You can really tell the staff loves and cares for animals. I always receive such positive kind attitudes from everyone there each time I go. Such a great veterinary hospital!
J.M. I have been coming here for years for all my pets. My senior boy that I adopted a few years ago, he's in here constantly. They are always SO NICE, it's obvious they love him! All the doctors give fantastic medical advice for your pet, and top notch care. The vet assistants will treat your pets like their own. And they have a GREAT points reward system if you get the app - saved me hundreds over the years.. I highly recommend Anchor Animal Hospital.
