Location & access map for "Athens Animal Clinic"

AAHA-accredited, Board Certified doctors & hospital provide the finest care for your pet: Athens Animal Clinic in Columbus, IN with 2 Vets.

After having moved to Columbus, IN from Illinois, Dr. Wes Robinson opened up a new veterinary clinic in 1971. The first location for the newly established Athens Animal Clinic was on SR #11 just north of Bulldog Lanes at what used to be called the Paylakes. The practice grew quickly and in the early part of 1972, a brand new building was finished closer to downtown just north of the 8th Street bridge at the present location today.

Dr. Robinson worked as a sole practitioner for many years but had several associates come and go until Dr. Brooke Case came back home to Bartholomew County after having graduated from the Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine in May 1986. She became an associate veterinarian with Dr. Robinson until she purchased the practice in 2001. Dr. Robinson helped in the transition but eventually moved to Freeport, IL with his wife Joyce.

On June 7, 2008, Athens Animal Clinic was severely damaged by flooding that effected Bartholomew County and Columbus. We were fortunate to be able to continue serving some of our clients needs by operating out of 4 Paws Palace Boarding Kennel and working closely with other veterinary clinics in the area. After being displaced for 3 ½ months, we were able to return to our home location on September 22, 2008. Out of the muddy waters, we were able to return to a remodeled facility and continue to care for our clients and their beloved pets as we have for the past 37 years.

Athens Animal Clinic has been accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association since 1996. This accreditation process involves evaluation and scrutiny in many areas of veterinary medicine as it relates to high quality veterinary care. We are proud to undergo this process in order to offer the highest standards to our clients and pets.

    Services

At Athens Animal Clinic, your pet’s needs are our first priority. From puppies and kittens to long-term friends, we provide a full-range of services to help your pet live a full, healthy life. In order to provide the best care and products possible for your growing pet, we offer the following services:

    Puppies/Kittens
The needs of your new kitten or puppy may be very different than the needs of an older more mature pet. Feeding, grooming, housing, and training are all items that are important aspects of your new family member’s smooth transition into its new environment. We can assist you in providing your little one with proper nutrition, preventative health care, parasite control, and much more. We want your relationship with your new pet to be as satisfying to you as it is for them, and to last a long healthy lifetime.

    Annual Checkups
It is extremely important for your pets to be examined thoroughly each and every year of their life. Animals are masters of disguise when it comes to hiding symptoms that can indicate serious illnesses. Your pet ages 6-8 years on average each year, so changes in their health can become serious very quickly. Your pet's yearly exam will include body condition score assessment, a dental health exam, nutrition discussion, risk assessment for parasites, and other items as appropriate.

    Senior Pets
As your pet ages, changes that occur in their general health may be subtle and hard to notice. We recommend that pets over the age of 7- 8 years begin having regular checkups every 6 months since body systems changes can occur more rapidly as they advance in years. Many of these changes can be handled with positive results if the conditions are found early and dealt with in a timely manner. Advancements in the field of veterinary medicine have allowed us the opportunity to extend excellent care to our older patients with the end results not only being that we are able to extend their life with us but to allow these later years to be much more comfortable and pleasant for our beloved pets.

    When Your Pet is Sick...
Unfortunately, there may come a time in the life of your pet in which they become ill or are injured. We have the ability to perform many in house diagnostic tests, surgical procedures, and we consult with many area specialists in various fields of veterinary medicine to provide the best possible care for your beloved pet. We have developed close relationships with specialists in all areas of pet health care to ensure that your beloved pet gets the absolute best treatment options available.

S.P. They were all very helpful and understanding. We took 1 of ours in for routine shots and the other for a concern. They addressed both and answered all of our questions. Looking forward to more successful visits!
T.G. The staff at Athens have always been kind and compassionate to my cats. I've been bringing my cats here for nearly 20 years, and when my 17 year old cat passed, they were very sympathetic and took care of everything so that my family could properly grieve. Thank you, Athens. Highly recommend.
J.C. Great staff. I have taken my dogs to Athens for over 30 years and have always known they care and that my fur babies are in good hands.
K.H. Thank you to AAC for being open on a very cruddy winter day even with a cold office and bad roads to take care of our sick doggo. Dr Kocher was very thorough and expedient in getting a diagnosis for Pete, as well as connecting us to emergency surgery services in Indianapolis. We appreciate AAC for always being so nice, friendly, and caring for us and our family members.
E.K. If I could give this clinic and staff an 11/10, I would. I just moved to the area 3 weeks ago and I had a medical emergency with my 11 year old Border Collie last week. The last thing any fur parent wants is a medical emergency but to have one in a completely new state not having a primary vet or know anyone is even scarier. I had a horrid experience at a different vet but Shelby, the Practice Manager, Dr. Case, and entire staff at Athens took my calls for a second opinion, voicemails, emails, and care for me and my dog without hesitation and with the upmost empathy. As if I had been taking her to this clinic for years. They were not obligated at all to show my dog the last minute emergency care they did today as they had a completely full schedule but they did just that. I have never quite experienced this type of care from any vet I’ve taken her to and I couldn’t be anymore grateful for these people. I wish I could have received different news about my girl but knowing she was taken care of by people who care in her final days is something I will forever be humbled by from this staff. I was not “just another” client. I can’t thank them enough.
C.R. Very happy with the care shown to my pet (dog) and myself! Have been struggling with an ear pain/infection with my dog’s ear since August of last year. Was going to another bigger clinic in Franklin. I had taken my dog in a few times and the last time they said nothing was wrong. My dog ( a Yorkshire terrier) had been yelping and shaking from pain. We haven’t been able to even touch Her ear at all. After messages to my old clinic and no response I searched for a new one. Found Anthens Animal clinic online. The vet was very thorough and listened to my concerns. My dogs ear finally seems free of pain after months! Thank you Anthens Animal Clinic!
S.L. I have boarded my pet 5 times now at Athens Animal Clinic and I can feel good going on my trips knowing that my pet is cared for in the BEST possible way. I can enjoy my trips and know that he'll be fine when I go to pick him up to go home. They also take care of his vaccinations and medical care. What better place is possible?! ? I trust Athens 100% and I'll use them in the future after taking such good care of my pet. THEY ARE THE BEST! I give them a 10 out of 10..
