Albany County Veterinary Hospital is located in Albany, New York, in the town of Guilderland, right across the street from Stuyvesant Plaza. ACVH was founded in 1922 as a mixed large and small animal practice by Dr. John J. Wermuth, a Cornell graduate. Dr. Milford Becker, also a Cornell veterinarian, purchased the practice in 1952 and made the transition to a primarily companion animal practice in the 1960's, before selling it to Dr. Donald Dries in April 1977. Dr. Dries "passed the torch" to Dr. Virginia Jarvis in August of 2006. Our friendly, courteous healthcare team seeks to provide the best possible medical, surgical and dental care for the pets of Albany and Schenectady County and the Capital District Area. Our patients include not only dogs and cats, but rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, other small mammals and reptiles. H.S. Great staff, great drs. Multiple pets in the family through the years have been patients here, mostly for routine check ups.

R.D. Dr. Jarvis and Dr. Pokorny are the absolute best! We have seen them for almost ten years for seven animals, and they always go above and beyond. Both doctors are friendly and knowledgeable, and they take their time with you to answer all your questions. The techs and reception staff are equally awesome. Everyone in this place loves animals so much. They are great about getting you in quickly when your pet is sick. We’ve even had to use them for euthanasia, unfortunately, and we could not ask for more compassionate care. Everyone here is just amazing.

H.S. The team here is very friendly, patient and honest. They were so sweet with my cat Zeus yesterday, even though his claws are legal weapons and he was in a ton of pain.. In 2020, I adopted Sedrick who was neglected and sick, ACVT was my first stop. I was nervous about not being able to go in with him due to covid, but he seemed at ease in their care. I'll never forget how kind, knowledgeable and helpful this team was while restoring his health.. Thank you!

A.S. I have brought my cats here for the last couple of years for check-ups and booster shots. The staff is very nice, and seem to really care about the pet patients. The appointments I had never felt rushed either.
