Animal Medical Care of Newport was started 1 July 1976 as a mixed animal mobile practice by Dr. Steven R. Brown. In October of 1976 the practice, as well as Dr. Brown and his family, moved to a house at 159 NE 10th Street. The garage area was remodeled into the clinic space and a kennel area was added to the back of the building. The practice was truly a family business with two small boys running between their bedrooms and the clinic space and Dr. Brown's wife answering the phone. Often after business hours the family would load up into the clinic van to do farm calls.

After a few years the house space was remodeled to create a larger clinic with more exam rooms, the boys bedroom became a wonderful surgery room and a second entrance for cats and small dogs was added. The space was well used and enjoyed as the practice and family grew. In 1981 the Browns moved out and the practice took over the whole house. By now the staff had increased in numbers and the family had grown to include two girls.

Animal Medical Care has been an AAHA approved facility since 1979 and works hard to provide the best possible medical care to our patients and clients. The hospital continues to be a mixed animal practice treating all types of patients, family pets, farm, exotics and marine mammals.

M.L. ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. Here's why: So, I've had dogs for 55 years. When I moved to Newport I was recommended to this place. My current life partner, Scampi, is 14 years old. When I moved to the area, Animal Medical care was recommended to me. Last year, when I had her teeth cleaned, it was a bit scary after the surgery; Scampi had had holistic non-anesthesia cleaning for all her life (which you can't find in Oregon), so "being under" was a big strain on her little 10lb self. So when her teeth cleaning was due again just now, I went in and voiced my concerns to the Doctor. Unlike so many veterinarians, who push teeth cleaning (as it's a big profit maker for vets), The doctor was extremely empathetic with my concerns about Scampi going under anesthesia at this age; he examined her, and while she has some tartar build up, told me there was no sense of urgency to perform it at this time. That rates the highest marks in my book. The compassion these folks show is outstanding. The facility is very, very nice, and both Doctors are great. I just can't fault this place at all, and I'll tell you, I haven't had as pleasant an experience at a vet for 40 years. That in itself says a lot.

J.S.K. Three years ago we were new to the area and had to decide which vet to begin taking our dogs. Dr Eric Brown proved to be the most recommended vet by locals. We've regularly seen him since for the regular exams, shots, etc. The couple of times that a diagnosis and/or urgent care was needed, the dog in need was immediately fit in, regardless of how busy they were. The facility feels modern and has been immaculately clean at every visit. From the vet techs, to the people answering the phone, to Dr Brown and his vet peers, all have been both personable and professional. This is a place that cares, exactly what's needed when one of my little loved ones need veterinarian care.
