Colony Animal Hospital is a full service, American Animal Hospital Association-accredited veterinary facility located in Newport News, VA. We have provided quality care to all companion animals since 1961. Your family pet is treated in a compassionate, professional manner by our knowledgeable and experienced staff. Through continuing client education and preventative care, we strive to improve and maintain the human-animal bond.

Colony Animal Hospital was established in July 1961 by Dr. James H. Howard. He built the hospital at its present location, adding on to the facility as the practice grew. Dr. Greg Piske joined Colony Animal Hospital in 1983 and then purchased the hospital from Dr. Howard when he retired in April 1999.

In 2007, a new state-of-the-art addition was added to the hospital. It includes a new dental suite with a digital dental x-ray unit; a new surgical suite with Bluetooth wireless surgical monitoring equipment; a new imagining room that houses our digital x-ray unit, video otoscope, and our ultrasound unit. Our new treatment area also includes an ICU with climate-controlled cages and an oxygen therapy cage, as well as a new large treatment area with four treatment stations and an updated pharmacy and laboratory.

B. The staff were very polite and professional. I only stopped in to ask a few questions. I got prompt service with a smile from a very knowledgeable lady. I very much appreciated the easy at which i was able to gain access, as i was in my handicap scooter when i stopped in. Only $75 for the initial exam, and i was told the procedure i was requesting would be no charge. I am very impressed.

S.F. Since Dr. Piske retired I had been concerned about continuing with Colony but today I was reassured and relieved when I was able to schedule a drop off appointment for my kitty within 24 hours. He was treated quickly and everyone was caring and professional. I am delighted with Dr. RIggs and the staff and will continue with Colony.

K.S. I've been going to Colony since 2014. Between three dogs, each has received care and more for both vet visits and boarding. When one pet passed suddenly, they even sent a card wishing condolences including multiple phone calls from Dr Riggs herself checking in on the adjustment of my other dog, and how we were, and to comfort me in that hard time. All other staff have helped with life's transitions, and have gone above and beyond their job duties to both myself and my pups. I am a loyal customer as a result of the care and services they have always provided me with.

M.K. This is an very caring clinic! When I had pre - surgery concerns for my little Cooper ( a Dachshund) the staff made sure I was able to get and appt. with Dr. Riggs in order to address a new health concern. Dr. Riggs was very reassuring about my Cooper and his upcoming surgery. When your “ pet” is your family it’s so good to feel like their doctor - Vet- cares as much about their good health as you do!

E.L. I’ve always received exceptional care for my dogs at Colony. Dr Riggs is very thorough, compassionate, and highly skilled. I’m sad to see some poor and unfair reviews and wanted to comment on it. It is unfortunate that there may be longer wait times for scheduling, but this is at no fault of anyone in this office. We must be kind to our providers as there are not enough of them able and willing in the health care field lately. She is but one person and the office is doing everything they can to accommodate. When you have her time, you are never rushed, and she is wonderful at assessing all concerns, identifying accompanying concerns for your pet, and being decisive on a course of action. The fees are also very fair when compared in this area. Great thanks to this vet clinic. I would be very sad and lost without the care of Dr Riggs and Colony animal hospital!

L.H. I love Colony Vet. They take great care of my two cats. All the staff are extremely kind and caring. I feel the pricing is fair and I am always able to get a flexible appointment when needed. The drop off option is great for my work schedule. I live an hour away and still travel to Colony because they do such a great job.
