Gold Coast Animal Hospital has seen many changes throughout the years. Our hospital, originally known as Lake Shore Animal Hospital, was built by a woman, Florence Fitzgerald in the early 1960's. Ms. Fitzgerald envisioned a state of the art animal hospital, and for an astounding 1.5 million dollars, built the only veterinary clinic in Illinois that measured up to human hosptal standards. Dr. Lloyd Prasuhn was hand picked to run the most advanced veterinary hospital of the day. From 1961 until 1988, Dr. Prasuhn hosted instructors from various schools of veterinary medicine. These professors instructed the veterinarians of Lake Shore Animal Hospital in surgery, oncology, and internal medicine. While the hospital cared for the pets of the rich and famous such as Hugh Hefner and Mayor Richard J. Daley, Dr. Prasuhn also held vaccine clinics for the poor of the area.

M. There was some confusion about a late night appointment on a Friday to euthanize, Lucky our dear cat. The office was officially closed when we got there and the staff was punched out for the day. Knowing that this was a very difficult time, the doctor and two staff members stayed and assisted us. They all show great care and compassion above and beyond considering the situation, which we greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this Animal Hospital. Thank you Gold Coast Animal Hospital.

S.H. This staff is amazing. After just one visit, they always remembered my name and my pet's name. Dr. Reece added years to the life of my pup. He's literally the best. When I moved away for a couple of years, they would still answer and return my calls about treatment options, medications, and second opinions. They become very invested in the health of the pets that go there. Also, when our dog was on daily medication, they would hand deliver it to our door each month.. Now that we're back, I wouldn't think of bringing my pets anywhere else.

A.G. We've used Gold Coast for several years. The doctors are kind and very good with dogs who don't care much (and that's a nice way of putting it) for examinations. The front desk staff are always friendly and have an attitude that makes veterinary trips less stressful. And finally, the vet techs and boarding staff also do a terrific job. We've boarded our dogs on several occasions and they've always come home happy and healthy so we know they're getting some love while we are away. The neighborhood is lucky to have Gold Coast.

H.F. I've been taking my dog, Ellie, and bird, Harry, here for about ten years. We have always had a great experience. Ellie has needed a surgery on each of her legs, and as someone else said in a review, they are extremely reasonably priced and yet very professional and do a great job. Dr. Reece is wonderful. They are great with Harry, the bird, because they love to have him there and take him out and play with him during the day. I've always been really happy with Gold Coast Animal Hospital.
