Doses - TRIMEPRAZINE TARTRATE, TRIMEPRAZINE TARTRATE WITH PREDNISOLONE

Trimeprazine:
a)In general, for all species, all routes: 1.1 - 4.4 mg/kg qid (Swinyard 1975)

Dogs: Dog

a) 2.5 mg/10 lbs up to 40 pounds; for patients over 40 lb.: 15 mg bid, after 4 days, reduce the dose to 1/2 of the initial dose (Swinyard 1975)
Trimeprazine/Prednisolone (Temaril®-P):

Dogs: Dog



Give capsules once daily PO, and tablets bid PO; after 4 days reduce dose to 1/2 of initial dose; adjust as necessary. (Package Insert; Temaril®-P - SKB)
Monitoring Parameters -
  • 1) Efficacy
  • 2) Degree of sedation, and anticholinergic effects
  • 3) Adverse effects associated with corticosteroids if using combination product
    Client Information - Trimeprazine is approved for use in humans and is a prescription drug.
    Trimeprazine in combination with prednisolone is approved for use in dogs only and is a veterinary prescription drug.
