Originally named Metry Animal Hospital, the practice was founded by Dr. Tom Melius in 1946. In 1952, Metairie Small Animal Hospital was built at its present location at 101 Metairie Road. Two years later, Dr. Henry Melius joined the practice, and from such humble beginnings, MSAH has evolved and grown to keep pace with the ever-increasing technology and medical advances. The practice currently has 10 doctors and over 40 employees on staff. In addition to the Main Hospital on Metairie Road, we also operate two Out Patient Clinics to better serve our clients.

I.P. Very friendly staff! My cat was very sick and they took good care of him. They give you daily updates on your pet so you know what's going on at all times. I would highly recommend.

A.S. I love MSAH and and all their locations. The doctors and techs are so caring and their dental staff is exceptional! They have provided nothing but the best care for all my dogs for nearly 10 years!

F.S. I have known Dr Allison & Dr Mouney for many years, and there is no one I trust more when it comes to the health of my Dogs. The lovely facility (MSAH Metairie Rd) is just icing on the cake. It’s lovely. I moved out of state several years ago, but for anything more serious than yearly vaccinations, I drive in to have them seen by my favorite vets.

R.R. My husky and I were visiting in town and she developed an infection on her surgical implant. MSAH was so helpful - I got connected on very short notice with a surgical specialist to treat her leg and talk about next care steps. Dr. Himel is very skilled, professional, and explains everything very well. I'm a big fan of MSAH, their facility, and Dr. Himel!

They were very helpful, and treated my cat’s abscess quickly and conservatively, making what was a very stressful situation much better.
