Family Pet Animal Hospital was founded in April of 1990 by Dr. Rae Ann Van Pelt (University of Illinois, 1987) and Dr. Marla Minuskin (University of Illinois, 1985). Our goal was to establish a facility that provided the highest quality diagnostic and medical care along with up to date client education. We understand how significant your pet is to your life! We promote preventative medicine and wellness for pets of all ages.

Over the course of our many years here, our hospital has grown and developed along with our neighborhood. We now offer chiropractic medicine, ultrasound, and endoscopy, in addition to the excellent general veterinary medicine and surgery our clients have always enjoyed. Family Pet Animal Hospital is proud of our reputation: Our business has grown through word-of-mouth advertising alone.

One thing that hasn’t changed is our hospital’s ongoing commitment to the very best medical care for your pet – Even if it’s not at Family Pet! While our doctors are among the most excellent general practitioners around, we regularly refer our patients to specialists in such fields as internal medicine, surgery, dermatology, ophthalmology, and cardiology if we feel your pet will benefit from an expert consultation.

Since 1991, Family Pet Animal Hospital has maintained the highest possible accreditation from the American Animal Hospital Association. We achieved this by committing ourselves to outstanding quality of medicine, diagnostics and patient care. Each one of our veterinarians subscribes to the goals and mission developed at Family Pet’s inception, so you can feel confident with any doctor your pet sees here. Our voicemail system allows clients to leave messages directly for their veterinarian, and our doctors spend many hours every week answering client questions, advising, and supporting ongoing cases via the telephone.

M.S. If I could give Family Pet Animal Hospital more stars I would! The staff and doctors really care about pets! I have an elderly cat and Dr. Guzina did a fantastic job explaining her condition to me and answering all my questions. While most veterinarians only want the best for our pets, I found that Family Pet went above and beyond. They are realistic but encouraging, especially since my cat is 17. Highly recommend them!

O.P. I took my cat here (Tuxedo boy, 5 years) when I found he was peeing blood. After obviously panicking, I called every local veterinary clinic looking for help or an emergency appointment, and Family Pet Animal Hospital was by far the most helpful from the jump. They set me up with an appointment for the next day, listened to my concerns with patience on the phone (I'm sure they could tell I was nervous for my baby) and gave me advice for how to prep for the appointment/what to monitor. The appointment itself was great -- I showed up the next day, the woman working at the front was super knowledgable & my cat LOVED her, and Dr. Sremac was great with me & my cat. My cat had to be held there for a few hours for his urinalysis and I felt perfectly comfortable leaving him there in good hands. When I picked him up, Dr. Sremac called me prior to thoroughly discuss everything since she wasn't able to meet in-person (it was 5:00 PM), which I couldn't appreciate more. My cat has FLUD (Feline Lower Urinary Disease) and while hearing that was devastating to me, Dr. Sremac explained everything in a way I could understand, gave me tips on what to keep an eye on for, linked me to his new medications & medicated food, and I left feeling that my cat would be okay and confident in managing his FLUD. My pets are my family and while these things do happen it never makes it any less difficult or scary. This is the first veterinary clinic in Chicago that I have felt truly confident in bringing my pets to and I will definitely be returning. Can't recommend enough -- thank you all for the work you do!

L.A. My chihuahua was a patient of Family Pet for 5 years before we moved out of the city and she received the absolute best care. The staff was always so sweet to my pup and I could tell they loved their job and cared about their patients. Highly recommend!

M.B. Family Pet is the very best of all the veterinarian clinics/ hospitals I've ever gone to with my 4 legged kiddos. I've lost two cats within 6 months right before the pandemic. Dr. Ujicki graced us with her wisdom and kindness and was there to support me not just through the process, but even after as we considered the impact to our other cat and eventually as we adopted a new one. She always remembers the other cats names, always remembers the specifics of what is happening with each cat's health. She spends more time with me on the phone explaining things thoroughly when stuff is happening. Cannot say enough about this place. The support staff is amazing as well.

J.G. I started doing annual check-ups at Family Pet last year. We just had a visit today for the annual check-up, and Family Pet has been nothing but accommodating and understanding about my reactive dog. Everyone who works here is professional and understands how to interact with a reactive dog. I know my dog is in good care here at Family Pet. Definitely recommend them here!

C.C. Family Pet Animal Hospital is truly one of a kind. Dr. Goldrick was my dog's vet and I could not have asked for a more knowledgeable, patient, kind person to care for her health needs. I never felt rushed during our visits and I felt comfortable approaching him with countless questions/concerns I had raising my dog as a young puppy. Every single person that I interacted with in person or via the phone or email at Family Pet was professional, considerate, and very efficient. My family has since relocated to the suburbs and Family Pet is one of the things we will miss most about living in the city. Thank you so much for everything you do!
