AAHA-accredited, Board Certified doctors & hospital: State Line Animal Hospital with 2 Vets located in Leawood, KS: provide the finest care for your pet.
Our mission of State Line Animal Hospital is to provide our clients and their pets the most compassionate veterinary care at reasonable fees while maintaining a pleasant, efficient, and friendly atmosphere.
State Line Animal Hospital was purchased in 1977 by Dr. Vern Otte. His goal was to build a practice that would offer the best care in all areas of veterinary medicine and to provide for the physical needs of his patients and also for their emotional needs as well.
Since 1977, State Line Animal Hospital has grown into a full service veterinary facility serving over 4,000 clients. Our staff consists of 2 veterinarians, a veterinary technician, 2 veterinary assistants, 3 receptionists, a kennel manager, 5 kennel assistants, a groomer, and an office manager.
SLAH is a small animal practice specializing in companion animals, primarily dogs and cats, but the staff also cares for rabbits, birds, laboratory animals, and reptiles. Additionally, State Line AH is the animal shelter for the City of Leawood. Lost or stray animals picked up by Animal Control officers are placed in 'protective custody' at State Line AH; treated for injury if necessary, and cared for until their owners claim them or they are adopted by families seeking the 'perfect pet.' Injured and orphaned wild critters - geese, squirrels, wild bunnies, possums, raccoons, and an occasional deer or beaver - are brought in to the hospital for treatment, then are released or placed in a protected animal sanctuary.
The services provided by SLAH include routine examinations, in-depth diagnostics, preventive medical care, geriatric care, minor and major surgical procedures, dental care, digital radiology, ultrasound, clinical laboratory testing, endoscopy, laser surgery, pet boarding, and grooming.
While State Line AH is not a retail outlet, the hospital does carry veterinary prescription medicines and specialized prescription diet foods, as well as flea and tick control products, heartworm prevention medications, leashes, and collars. Please call our helpful staff for the full range of specialty items we have in stock for your pets' needs.
Dr. Otte started Puppy Day Out more than 20 years ago to help working pet owners. Puppies attending the Puppy Day Out program were socialized with other puppies and with the staff, thus avoiding the aggressive and destructive behavior of puppies left alone all day. At that time, pets were allowed to come to Puppy Day Out until they were 6 months old. Owners' demands that their pets continue in Puppy Day Out has led to a day care program that is much appreciated by owners and pets alike.
