a steIn September 2023, we rushed our cat to BluePearl Pet Hospital in Waltham, MA, where she was administered an ultrasound. Our regular veterinarian examined her at 8 am that morning suspecting that she suffered from pancreatitis. He recommended that we go to another emergency pet hospital, but they were unable to accommodate us that day or even the next.
We waited 3 hours for this ultrasound procedure, as our cat was in desperate need of this diagnostic measure. During the wait, she walked around the room and we observed no unusual tail activity.
When we collected our cat after the procedure, she was in the carrier as she was when we gave her to a technician. We had no opportunity to see our cat physically stand or move until we returned home late that day. Nor were we given any pre- or post-treatment guidance or explanation regarding what to expect. For example, we were never advised that she would be shaved.
When we got home and let her out of the carrier, we noticed that her tail was dragging on the floor and that she could not raise it or "flick" it as she normally would.
We were not advised by a technician or anyone else at BluePearl that our cat’s tail was not typical or unusual in any manner either before or after the procedure. Neither we nor our regular vet observed any unusual behavior regarding her tail previously.
We called Blue Pearl to report that we were concerned about her tail dragging and the apparent immobility of her tail. We don't know for sure who was in the room conducting the procedure, and BluePearl has not made it clear who was in the room during the procedure and who handled her. Apparently, this is something that they want to hide.
We were forced to visit our vet and incur the costs of visits and x-rays. Our vet's review of the radiologist's report and his own examination is that there is damage to the nerves in her tail.
We have come to the only conclusion that is rational and logical. Sometime during preparation for the ultrasound or during the procedure, someone roughly pulled or mishandled her tail - notwithstanding that BluePearl claims nothing untoward happened. The resultant damage was not a result of anything that we or that our vet did. Our vet can’t say with any certainty whether our cat will ever recover from the damage, which we know was done to her tail by BluePearl.
We were forced to pay for additional services because of BluePearl’s negligence. Apparently, this is not an uncommon occurrence for this horrible company – they severely injured the two hind legs of a dog in Virginia this year during an MRI for which they were sued. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORRIFIC VETERINARY PRACTICE FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR PETS!!!!!!!!
E.S.Blue Pearl saved my cat's life. They have great people there who clearly care about the pets they treat. While my cat was there they frequently called me with updates so I was always aware of my cat's condition and what they were doing to keep him alive. He is now doing well and looks to have a long life ahead of him.. It is quite expensive, and you should know that before going there. I recommend getting pet insurance, as that is the only way I was able to afford it. If you have insurance or can afford it, I highly recommend Blue Pearl.
V.T.A.My 15 year old dog had a collapsed lung and unfortunately I had to make the decision to put him down. The staff was beyond incredible with me. They showed so much compassion, didn’t rush me and allowed me to digest everything. I feel so lucky to have had the team that I had on Monday night. Thank you all!
M.A.S.G.My cat Finny needed emergency PU surgery - and our vet sent us to Blue Pearl. She said Dr. McGowan was there and was awesome - and also a very good surgeon was there too. So we arrived a hot mess - and they took care of Finny. Everyone there seemed great with him (and with me). Thank you so much! We are recovering here at home. I really appreciate your TLC and expertise!
M.M.I never leave reviews, but the staff here was absolutely amazing. They were compassionate and professional. The service was really quick and reasonably priced. Thank you so much for taking such good care of my dog in a really challenging situation.
N.L.The staff at BluePearl are so incredible. Every step of the way from check in to discharge I felt my pet was cared for and my concerns were listened to. The veterinarians and nurses were so loving and compassionate with my puppy, Rhea. It made something that was a very scary experience much more comforting. They were up front about all the costs of services and medication and provided me with different options for care based on my comfort level. I can't say enough about my experience here. Hoping Rhea has a speedy recovery so we don't go back any time soon, but if we had to I'd know she was in the best of hands!
N.M.Our cat just got home yesterday from her second stay at Blue Pearl this month for kidney disease, and we cannot recommend them enough. She was in critical condition when we brought her in, and they saved her life, giving us more time to spend with our first baby. Dr. Rosenthal and Dr. McGowan were amazing. Both were so kind and patient, answering all of my questions and calming my every nerve without hestitation. They provided me with frequent updates throughout each day, called when they said they would, so I never felt like I was waiting around wondering what was happening. All of the nurses I spoke to over the phone in the evenings when I called to check in were fantastic as well. Not once did I ever feel as if they were annoyed or bothered that I kept calling to check in, and they answered all of my questions with the utmost kindness. They even let us visit with her while she was admitted! We had a great experience in the Emergency Room as well. They immediately checked her in, taking her in for vitals and an intial exam. They told me how long each step would be and provided me with frequent updates. Again, I was never left waiting for hours wondering what was happening, something I had experienced at a different local emergency vet. When I had to check out and had tears in my eyes not knowing what her outcome would be, the front desk staff was so compassionate, handing me tissues and letting me take my time.. While the whole visit cost us a great deal, I don't believe they are "all about the money" as some other reviews have mentioned. At every step they gave us options and their respective estimates, and we never felt pressured to move forward with anything we weren't comfortable spending. Even at the Emergency visit we were sadly given the option to put her to sleep given the high cost and the critical condition she was in-- so they were not pressuring us to admit her which would have given them more money, but helped us weigh our options and decide on the best way to move forward.. We are SO so grateful to have some more time with our girl, and would not hesitate to recommend Blue Pearl to everyone we know!
