Dr. Wilson graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University in 1985 and practiced in western Michigan and in Indiana for the next few years. In Indiana he practiced at a small animal and exotic animal veterinary hospital. He also took care of the animals at Potawatami Zoo in South Bend where they had a terrific exotic cat collection (Black Leopards, Lions, Tigers, Bobcats and Snow Leopards), plus Bears, Wallabies, Hoof Stock and various Monkeys, including Chimpanzees. He was also involved with the Indiana Wildlife Rehabilitation Society which provided medical care for injured wildlife from Hummingbirds to Deer and consulted with the Laboratory Animal Department at Notre Dame University. In 1988, Dr. Wilson purchased a practice in Westland Michigan which he operated for 15 years before coming to Holland.

He started visiting the Holland area regularly in 1998 and was very impressed with the people and the culture of the area. "When one goes into a store or business in the Holland area, there is an attitude of real concern, an attitude of service, which I find attractive," states Dr Wilson. He found the pace to be relaxed and people in the area to be very hospitable. So, it did not take long to decide that Holland was the place he wanted to practice, and he wanted to build a very unique and intriguing practice that would be a credit to the area.

His practice philosophy is to empathize with the owner, thoroughly diagnose problems, educate the pet owner and offer treatment options for their beloved pet. Continuing education is a very high priority for Dr. Wilson because veterinary medicine, like its human counterpart, has progressed very rapidly and some things done 5 years ago are now obsolete. Medical Care is indeed medical and caring; they go hand in hand. "All my life I have had pets and I remember the worry, the pain and the tears of each one when it was ill or injured," Dr Wilson recalls, "and that needs to translate into the way I deliver medical care."

G.G. They take poultry! After my turkey Ducky was attacked I had taken her to the emergency animal hospital. They told me to follow up with Duckys normal vet to check the progress. Well turns out her old vet no longer sees poultry so I was panicking. I was recommended these guys and called Monday got an appointment Monday! Everyone there was super nice and gentle with my girl. I knew it was going to cost me a good amount but not as bad as I thought! Two days after her visit they called to do a check up on her which was so thoughtful! I highly recommend these guys!

A.R. I could not recommend this place more! I move around a bit and have been to a few different vets for my pets. I’ve always had great service but nothing like I had here! I had a pretty scary last few nights with my cat and was able to get him in for an emergency appointment as soon as I called here! Once I got there the appointment was super quick and easy! And every single employee I met had a smile on their face and they were all so kind and educational! Gingy and I certainly cannot wait to return! (I’ll probably even drive back up here even when I move away, I was seriously so pleased with my service today ?).

B.C. Our Golden Retriever Guinness recently passed away. My wife and I are so very appreciative of the care they provided Guinness over his 11 years and especially during the last couple of months of his life. We are also appreciative of the emotional support they gave to us. The doctor and vet assistant cried along with my wife and I when Guinness finally passed. We have received flowers and a card from OAH, and recently were notified that OAH had made a donation to Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in memory of Guinness. Finally, we would like to give special recognition and thanks to Drs. Bergstrom and Patterson for the loving care they gave to our "Gentle Little Giant". We feel they have become part of our family. And now, introducing you to Guinness.. How could you not fall in love with that face?.

A.B. Dr. Swift is the absolute best. Have taken all our animals over the years to her and recommend her 1, 000, 000%. She’s very compassionate and listens to our concerns and addresses them promptly. Wouldn’t take our pets any where else in the Holland, MI area. The vet technicians are also amazing. They care for our animals like they are their own. Shoutout to Robin and Molly specifically.. Dr. Swift also sees chickens! If you have any backyard chickens that need to be treated, be sure to ask for her.
